Description

Native to the temperate zones of the Middle East and Central Asia, alfalfa is an herbaceous perennial plant of the Fabaceae family. It is cultivated mainly as fodder for livestock due to its many advantages, including productivity, resistance to drought and high concentrations of proteins, vitamins and mineral salts. A widely grown crop, it has been introduced to most of the temperate regions of the globe (Europe, North and South Africa, North and South America, Australia, East Asia).
