Rosa canina is a species of thorny shrub belonging to the Rosaceae family, native to Europe, Asia and North Africa. It is a type of wild rose with many ecotypes, all single-flowered. It is used as rootstock for improved rose varieties, and some of its hybrids are cultivated roses.
