Description

Native to the Northern Hemisphere, Humulus lupulus is a very hardy perennial climbing plant of the Cannabaceae family. It commonly grows in hedges and at the perimeters of damp, cool forests in Europe, at altitudes of up to 1,500 meters. It is also found in North America, northern Africa and western Asia. It is cultivated mainly for its seed cones, or hops, which contain substances widely used in the beer industry.
