Native to the Southern Hemisphere (South Africa, Namibia, Bostwana), specifically the sub–desert zones of southern Africa, harpagophytum, commonly called “devil’s claw,” is an herbaceous plant of the Pedaliaceae family. Due to its overharvesting by various industries, today it is cultivated and harvested under the protection of a quota charter to preserve its sustainability as a natural resource.
